Anaesthesia

Our anaesthetists provide the best quality and safest perioperative care to our patients with the resources they have available. They undertake medical assessment and preparation of patients for surgery. General anaesthesia is the usual technique, but they are developing expertise in regional anaesthesia techniques and have experience in managing challenging patients such as those with difficult airways and small children, many of whom are malnourished. Fluid therapy, resuscitation, and pain management after surgery is also important. On-going training is provided by visiting specialists and we also support periods of training in regional high volume centres of excellence such as India and Thailand where they can see a similar case mix under the supervision of more experienced clinicians.
