Campaign description:
I will remember the 6 weeks I have spent at the Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) for the rest of my life. It has truly been a privilege to have worked with the local staff here, and to have seen the impact which they have had on their patients. Through the dedication, skill and team-work of the staff, they have managed to change the lives of countless patients even in the short time I have been in Cambodia. I have seen young patients with congenital conditions, such as cataracts or leg deformities, who have been given the chance to see and run for the first time. I have seen elderly patients who have been left disabled by traumatic accidents undergo operations which have given them the opportunity to walk without pain again. Seeing the transformative work performed at CSC has taught me lessons about life, medicine and community which I will never forget.
On July 23rd 2023, we will be running the Wimbledon half marathon in the UK. I am very much not a runner and have never ran even close to 13 miles (or 21 km!) before, but I wanted to do something meaningful to repay CSC for the kindness it has shown to me over my 6 weeks here. Our aim is to raise $1000 to go towards funding the life-changing treatments provided here at CSC. Many of the patients who come to CSC cannot afford healthcare and so any money you can donate to my cause will go a long way towards them receiving the care which they need. Because of the new CSC donor system, you will be able to get updates on the staff and/or patients which you have helped with your money! You will also get updates on how our training for the half-marathon is going.

I am incredibly pleased to say that the wonderful Ailene will be running alongside me and supporting CSC as well. Throughout my time in Cambodia she has supported me through her kind words and now she continues to do so by motivating me through my training. As an avid long-distance runner in the past, her experience is invaluable and I am very excited to run the half-marathon with her.
Hi, my name’s Will and I visited CSC as a final-year medical student from the UK between February and March 2023. My 6 weeks at CSC has nourished my passion for global children's health and surgery. In my free time, I like to cook, listen to soul music, and watch basketball.
