My Account Of A Week At CSC

April 18, 2023

Day 1:

After a long journey, I finally arrived in Cambodia. I was excited and nervous at the same time, as I was going to volunteer at the Children's Surgical Centre. I met the rest of the volunteers, which included surgeons from the UK and Singapore. Everyone at CSC was friendly and welcoming. I was given a tour of the hospital, and I was amazed by the work that they were doing. The Children's Surgical Centre is a non-profit hospital funded through donations and founded in 1998.

Day 2:

Today was my first day on the job. I was assigned to work on the social media team. My role was to create content that would raise awareness about the Children's Surgical Centre and its mission. I spent the day taking pictures and videos of the hospital and the children’s stories. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on the faces of the children, despite their conditions.

Day 3:

Today, I spent most of my time on the wards, playing with the children. I was surprised by how resilient they were. Despite being in the hospital, they were full of energy and joy. It was amazing to see how the staff at the Children's Surgical Centre were able to create a safe and comfortable environment for the children.

Day 4:

Today, I was given the opportunity to scrub into the operating room. I was nervous at first, but I quickly got used to the environment. I was able to shoot surgical videos of specialists equipment, they were using nerve stimulators donated from sponsors. It was amazing to see how the surgeons were able to improve the lives of the patient’s by performing life-changing surgeries.

Day 5:

Today was my last day at the Children's Surgical Centre. I was sad to leave, but I was also grateful for the experience. My time here has really opened my eyes to the world and how fortunate we really are. These patients have nothing; some can't feed themselves, walk, or even communicate yet they still have a smile on their face. This has made me appreciate life and live every day to the maximum, to be motivated, and want to make a change. I left Cambodia with a new perspective on life and a desire to help others.

Overall, my time at the Children's Surgical Centre was an unforgettable experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a dedicated and compassionate team. I will always remember the children I met and the impact that the Children's Surgical Centre has on their lives. I hope that my contribution to the social media team will help to raise awareness about the Children's Surgical Centre and its mission along with increasing donations. I also hope to return one day to continue to help in any way that I can.
