Physiotherapy at CSC

WHY I VOLUNTEER AT CSC -  BY ANGELA HERDE.  I began working as a volunteer physio at CSC in October 2001 to help interview and employ a Khmer physiotherapist at the hospital. This was necessary for rehabilitation and follow-up advice for patients following surgery before going home or for assessment and treatment of patients with clubfoot, or neurological conditions, requiring splints or braces. I helped with training the Khmer physiotherapist and taught English. I worked three stints totaling three years and since then I have spent a month each year volunteering plus support for CSC with financial donations & surgical supplies. I count myself very fortunate to have worked at CSC with CEO/orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jim Gollogly and the team, witnessing their impressive work and dedication to the Khmer people.  As a practicing physiotherapist in Australia, I typically treat patients with less severe diagnoses. On my first day at CSC, I had already seen multiple patients with conditions that I had either never seen in Australia or were much more severe.

I was a new visitor to CSC in 2001 and it was also my first time in Cambodia. I immediately fell in love with the country and have been coming back ever since. All hospital staff are welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The hospital provides low-cost or free healthcare and treatment to the poorest people who need it most. However, despite the significant differences in the hospital and culture to Australia, CSC also performs surgery and procedures that transform people’s lives.  CSC's main challenge is the short supply of equipment and supplies due to heavy reliance on donations. Disabled Cambodians can receive treatment only if there are enough Khmer medical staff and surgical supplies to sustain the hospital's excellent work.

I’ve learned so much as well as being an extra pair of hands with the staff physiotherapist. After each visit, I'm reminded of how fortunate Australians, including myself, are.   I hope to return in the future to do my bit at this amazing hospital. ហេតុអ្វីខ្ញុំស្ម័គ្រចិត្តនៅ CSC -  ដោយ ANGELA HERDE។ ខ្ញុំបានចាប់ផ្តើមធ្វើការជាអ្នកស្ម័គ្រចិត្តផ្នែករូបវិទ្យានៅ CSC ក្នុងខែតុលា ឆ្នាំ 2001 ដើម្បីជួយសម្ភាសន៍ និងជួលគ្រូពេទ្យកាយសម្បទាខ្មែរនៅមន្ទីរពេទ្យ។ នេះគឺជាការចាំបាច់សម្រាប់ការស្តារនីតិសម្បទា និងតាមដានការណែនាំសម្រាប់អ្នកជំងឺក្រោយការវះកាត់មុនពេលទៅផ្ទះ ឬសម្រាប់ការវាយតម្លៃ និងការព្យាបាលអ្នកជំងឺដែលមានជើងទាត់ ឬជំងឺសរសៃប្រសាទ ដែលទាមទារការពុះ ឬដង្កៀប។ ខ្ញុំ​បាន​ជួយ​បណ្ដុះបណ្ដាល​គ្រូពេទ្យ​កាយសម្បទា​ខ្មែរ និង​បង្រៀន​ភាសា​អង់គ្លេស។ ខ្ញុំបានធ្វើការចំនួនបីដង សរុបចំនួនបីឆ្នាំ ហើយចាប់តាំងពីពេលនោះមក ខ្ញុំបានចំណាយពេលមួយខែជារៀងរាល់ឆ្នាំ ដើម្បីធ្វើការស្ម័គ្រចិត្ត បូករួមទាំងការគាំទ្រសម្រាប់ CSC ជាមួយនឹងការបរិច្ចាគហិរញ្ញវត្ថុ និងការផ្គត់ផ្គង់ផ្នែកវះកាត់។ ខ្ញុំចាត់ទុកខ្លួនឯងថាពិតជាសំណាងណាស់ដែលបានធ្វើការនៅ CSC ជាមួយនាយកប្រតិបត្តិ/គ្រូពេទ្យវះកាត់ឆ្អឹង វេជ្ជបណ្ឌិត Jim Gollogly និងក្រុមការងារ ដោយបានឃើញការងារដ៏គួរអោយចាប់អារម្មណ៍ និងការលះបង់របស់ពួកគេចំពោះប្រជាជនខ្មែរ។ ក្នុងនាមជាអ្នកព្យាបាលរោគកាយសម្បទានៅប្រទេសអូស្ត្រាលី ជាធម្មតាខ្ញុំព្យាបាលអ្នកជំងឺជាមួយនឹងការធ្វើរោគវិនិច្ឆ័យមិនសូវធ្ងន់ធ្ងរ។ នៅថ្ងៃដំបូងរបស់ខ្ញុំនៅ CSC ខ្ញុំបានឃើញអ្នកជំងឺជាច្រើនរួចទៅហើយដែលមានលក្ខខណ្ឌដែលខ្ញុំមិនធ្លាប់ឃើញនៅក្នុងប្រទេសអូស្ត្រាលី ឬធ្ងន់ធ្ងរជាងនេះ។

ខ្ញុំគឺជាភ្ញៀវថ្មីរបស់ CSC ក្នុងឆ្នាំ 2001 ហើយវាក៏ជាលើកទីមួយរបស់ខ្ញុំនៅក្នុងប្រទេសកម្ពុជាផងដែរ។ ភ្លាម​នោះ​ខ្ញុំ​លង់​ស្នេហ៍​នឹង​ប្រទេស ហើយ​បាន​ត្រឡប់​មក​វិញ​តាំង​ពី​ពេល​នោះ​មក។ បុគ្គលិកមន្ទីរពេទ្យទាំងអស់ស្វាគមន៍ មានប្រយោជន៍ និងរួសរាយរាក់ទាក់។ មន្ទីរពេទ្យផ្តល់ការថែទាំសុខភាព និងការព្យាបាលដោយឥតគិតថ្លៃ ក្នុងតម្លៃទាប ឬឥតគិតថ្លៃដល់ប្រជាជនក្រីក្របំផុតដែលត្រូវការវាបំផុត។ ទោះជាយ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ ទោះបីជាមានភាពខុសប្លែកគ្នាយ៉ាងខ្លាំងនៅក្នុងមន្ទីរពេទ្យ និងវប្បធម៌ចំពោះប្រទេសអូស្ត្រាលីក៏ដោយ CSC ក៏ធ្វើការវះកាត់ និងនីតិវិធីដែលផ្លាស់ប្តូរជីវិតរបស់មនុស្សផងដែរ។ បញ្ហាប្រឈមចម្បងរបស់ CSC គឺកង្វះខាតឧបករណ៍ និងការផ្គត់ផ្គង់ ដោយសារការពឹងផ្អែកខ្លាំងលើការបរិច្ចាគ។ ជនពិការកម្ពុជាអាចទទួលការព្យាបាលបានលុះត្រាតែមានបុគ្គលិកពេទ្យខ្មែរ និងសម្ភារៈវះកាត់គ្រប់គ្រាន់ ដើម្បីទ្រទ្រង់ការងារដ៏ល្អឥតខ្ចោះរបស់មន្ទីរពេទ្យ។
