A Future of Endless Possibilities

Thanks to the expertise and generosity of the "Kiwi Spine Team" from New Zealand, nine Cambodians who had a diagnosis of scoliosis had life-changing surgery last week. This is spinal deformity causes the spine to curve abnormally to the side, often in a "C" or "S" shape. CSC in Cambodia is one of the few centers in the country that offers scoliosis surgery. Drs. Kelly Byrne, Hamish Deverall and Michael Barnes spent the week in the Operating Theatre helping seven adolescents and two adults overcome a serious spinal curvature. Without treatment, these spinal disabilities may lead to increased physical deformity, breathing problems, inability to perform physical work and pain. After  surgery, these Cambodians can experience a newfound freedom and confidence, allowing them to stand taller—both physically and emotionally—as they embrace a future filled with limitless possibilities.

After a very long week, the surgical teams finally had a well-deserved relaxation outside on the hospital grounds.
