UPDATE 1

August 28, 2025 at 6:31 pm

Update description:

A leisurely stroll along the rivers and through the parks of Chelmsford to get in the mood for the start on Sunday!

Campaign description:

From the 31st August to the 7th of September 2025 I will be walking the southern route of the Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James. This is a historic pilgrimage route, travelled for over a thousand years, leading to the shrine of St. James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

I will begin in Tui, on the border of Portugal and Spain, and over the course of 8 days I will walk 120 km northwards to Santiago. The journey will take me through ancient towns, across rolling countryside, and past centuries-old churches and monuments, all on the way to one of Europe’s most famous pilgrimage destinations.

This challenge is not just about the walk. I am raising funds for the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Cambodia, a non-profit hospital providing free, life-changing surgery to children and adults who cannot otherwise afford healthcare. The CSC team also trains Cambodian surgeons and medical staff, ensuring lasting improvements to healthcare in the country.

I have set a fundraising target of £1,000, to be reached by 15th September 2025, and every donation will directly support CSC’s mission of transforming lives through surgery.

If you would like to support this cause, please do the following:

  1. Create an account at https://csc.org

  2. Visit my campaign page and donate here: https://csc.org/campaigns/bernie

  3. Follow my journey and offer encouragement as I take on this challenge.

Together, we can help ensure that children and families in Cambodia receive the surgical care they need.

Fundraiser: Bernie Gollogly

I have been fortunate to visit Cambodia twice and can testify to the much-needed work CSC has been doing to help Cambodians in need of medical services over the past 25 years. There is always more to be done and any contribution, however small, will be appreciated by staff and patients.
