Campaign description:

Introduction
The Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Phnom Penh is a non-profit hospital providing free, high-quality surgical care to some of Cambodia’s most vulnerable populations. Each year, between 2,000 to 3,000 surgeries are performed at CSC, covering a wide range of specialties including orthopaedics, plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, and ENT.

Despite this high surgical volume, CSC’s operating room infrastructure remains dependent on outdated and donated equipment. Our main operating table is over two decades old, lacks motorized functions, and is incompatible with modern imaging systems. This limits the surgical team’s ability to safely position patients—especially during long, complex procedures—and restricts the effective use of C-arm X-ray imaging required for precision in orthopaedic surgery.

Project Goal
We propose the acquisition of a modern electric operating table that will improve surgical safety, efficiency, and outcomes for our patients. Specifically, this table will:

Allow motorized positioning adjustments for improved ergonomics and surgical access

Be C-arm compatible, enabling real-time intraoperative imaging for accurate surgical corrections

Support pediatric and adult patients undergoing complex surgery.

This upgrade is essential to support CSC’s ongoing mission of providing safe, free surgical care to children and adults in need.

Why This Matters
Many of our procedures demand precise imaging and long operating times. Our current table is manual, unstable, and not radiolucent, making patient care riskier and more difficult.

By installing a modern, C-arm compatible electric table, CSC’s surgical team will:

Improve patient positioning, minimizing intraoperative risks

Reduce surgical time through better access and visibility

Provide higher standards of care for women and children

Enable more complex surgeries to be performed safely and confidently

Procurement and Maintenance
We have sourced a Japanese-manufactured electric operating table through a local vendor based in Cambodia. This vendor provides:

  • Full installation and setup
  • Ongoing technical support
  • Warranty and regular servicing
  • Having a local supplier ensures sustainability, with immediate access to maintenance and replacement parts when needed.

Funding Request
We are requesting $4,500 to fully cover the purchase, delivery, and setup of the new electric operating table. This amount reflects a one-time investment that will provide long-term benefit for thousands of surgeries each year.

Impact
With the installation of this new operating table, CSC will:

  • Enhance the safety and efficiency of 2,000 to 3,000 surgeries annually
  • Improve outcomes for pediatric orthopaedic and adult surgical patients
  • Enable greater use of intraoperative imaging for precision procedures
  • Reduce the physical strain on surgeons and nurses by replacing manual adjustments

This project will have immediate and lasting impact on our surgical services.

Conclusion
The Children’s Surgical Centre is committed to providing equitable, high-quality surgical care to the people of Cambodia. Replacing our outdated operating table with a modern, electric, C-arm compatible table will have a direct and meaningful impact on the safety and outcomes of over 2,000 surgeries each year.

Thank you so much to everyone contributing towards our project and fundraising goal!
