Specialty surgeons visit CSC

Our colleagues from around the world - Wee Lam, Andrew Yam, and 9 other surgeons from around the world are mentoring local Khmer doctors in specialty reconstructive microsurgery, nerve-related injuries, and rare disabilities at CSC this week. They have approximately 20 surgeries scheduled  - perhaps even more if they have time!  We would like to welcome back our friend Dr. Sara Dorman Shelton, who did a fellowship with us a couple of years ago. The surgeons will concentrate on complex plastic microsurgery cases (burns, rare disorders of the hands and/or feet) while working alongside our local Khmer surgical team. One four-year-old child who had surgery was born with macrodactyly, a rare condition where toes are abnormally large due to the overgrowth of bone and soft tissue. She cannot wear shoes or walk well and is afraid of being teased by other children when she starts school. Thanks to the generous support of our visiting surgeons and other donors who support CSC, this little girl will improve her ability to walk normally and can start school next year.
