To recognize International Nurses Day, our partner Watsi.org interviewed Danika, a nurse and audiologist who works in the CSC Ear, Nose, and Throat Department. This is what they had to say about her:
"A frontline caregiver, mother, daughter, friend, ENT nurse, and audiologist with our medical partner, @cambodiacsc in Cambodia. Danika spends most of her time caring for others—her family, her patients, her team. But when asked how she cares for herself, her answer revealed a quiet intentionality. 'I care for my heart and my energy,' she said. 'Because we need both of them to take care of patients and family.'
So how does she refill her heart? 'Sometimes I relax with my family. We go to the sea or to the province to see a good view,' she said, smiling. 'Being with them, those moments, they scare away what’s heavy in my heart.'
One of her favorite places? 'You should visit Siem Reap,' she told us. 'It’s the most popular place. People around the world come to see it.'
There’s a calm confidence in how Danika speaks of beauty, healing, and family—like she’s gently reminding us that taking care of yourself is part of caring for others. There’s so much grace in how she holds space for others—and herself."
Thank you, Nika, for recognizing the fundamental qualities that define an exceptional healthcare provider.
