FUNDRAISER FOR CSC!

February 1, 2026

One of CSC's recent international medical students, Henry Wood,  from the United Kingdom, is running a Marathon to raise money for CSC.  Here is his "ask:"
This year, I’m running the Brighton Marathon on 06 April, 2026, to raise money for the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia – a charity that means a great deal to me. Last summer, I spent my voluntary medical elective at CSC, working with children whose lives have been shaped by circumstances far beyond their control. Many were born with or developed conditions that are completely treatable, yet without access to treatment, they face a lifetime of disability, pain, or exclusion from education and play.

Cambodia is still recovering from a devastating past. Decades of war, the Khmer Rouge genocide, and the destruction of the healthcare system have left long-lasting effects. Many families live in poverty, healthcare access is limited and too expensive, and specialist paediatric surgical care is out of reach for most. For many children, CSC was their only realistic opportunity to receive treatment.

I saw how even a single operation could completely change the course of a child’s life — allowing them to walk, return to school, or live without constant pain. These were outcomes that we often take for granted, but for these families meant everything.

By running the Brighton Marathon, I hope to give something back to a charity that provides free, high-quality surgical care and rehabilitation to children who would otherwise not have a chance. Every donation, no matter how small, helps give a child the chance to walk, play, learn, and thrive.

Thank you so much for supporting me and, most importantly, helping to change lives through the Children’s Surgical Centre.
